HKHDCA’S under-13s Gee Shield team has returned from the NSW Country Regional Carnival held in Ballina as champions.

The team defeated Central Coast in the final to claim the association’s first victory in the competition’s 20-year history.

After restricting the coast side to just 110 (Aditya Ramakrishnans 2-13) the Hornsby side began its run chase confidently.

When top scorer Mansimar Singh (32) was dismissed with the score at 73 things began to tighten.

But a resolute Nic Miller (12 not out) guided his side to a two-wicket victory with two overs to spare.

The HKHDCA team defeated Tamworth, Newcastle, South-East Queensland and Hawkesbury to get to the final.
